Netanyahu is dangerous to Israel in so many ways and most of them are written about in the media all day long everyday. He is corrupt. He is dismantling Israel’s democracy in a systematic way. He arranged for Hamas to be funded by Qatar. He delegitimized the Palestinian Authority. He is on trial for corruption. He is wanted by the ICC for war crimes. He empowered and legitimized Israel’s most right wing messianic politicians. He was found responsible for the disaster at Mt. Meron. He bears direct responsibility for the failure of Israel to defend itself on October 7. He is responsible for not bringing all of the hostages home for 558 days. He continues to build illegal settlement in breach of international law. And more.
The biggest danger posed by Netanyahu (and by many of Israel’s so-called leaders) is their failure to declare openly that the State of Israel is willing to end the occupation and to allow the Palestinian people to achieve self-determination in a state of their own, living side-by-side with Israel in peace. The Israeli leaders and the people of Israel are almost deaf and blind to the rights of the Palestinian people.
It would help if Palestinian leaders deliver constant and consistent messages of their willingness to live in peace with Israel. But even before that happens, we citizens of Israel must have a principled position opposing occupation and in favor of ending the war immediately.
If Israel would show a face of real peace, I have great confidence that Hamas would become a Palestinian problem and not an Israeli problem. For that to happen we need new leaders. Netanyahu and his gang of criminals must be out of our lives and the Palestinians also need new leaders.
But let’s not forget our responsibility as Israelis.
