Gershon Baskin is featured in a film that examines the Jewish community’s polarization over Israeli policies in the Occupied Territories
Gershon Baskin shares his ideas in the film Between Two Worlds, where he confirms his belief that the Holocaust is not the center of our identity. The center of our identity is the moral code that we have been brought up with which is the heart of what Jewish traditions and values teach us.
In cooperation with the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah organized a conference entitled “Going to the UN? What’s it all about?”.
Nothing scares off investors like the unkown and right now, it’s very difficult to see a clear path ahead for bringing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict closer to a resolution.
Gershon Baskin warns that without a fundamental change in relations between the parties [Israelis and Palestinians], the option of a two-state solution will soon be off the table.
The question Mr Baskin and others ask is where Mr Netanyahu falls in this debate and
whether he wants an Israel that is both Jewish and democratic.
if hard core left-wing Israelis (like Gershon Baskin) and Palestinians committed to non-violence could not come close to a deal at a conference such as this, I did not see any bilateral agreement on the horizon–whether or not George Mitchell was injected into the formula.
In January 2011, Gershon Baskin claimed that he was 100 percent sure that a former disgruntled employed of the Palestinian Liberation Organization‘s (PLO) Negotiations Affairs Department leaked the Negotiation Support Unit (NSU) documents, and that they are genuine. Even though the PLO vehemently denied the report, 5 months later, Ziyad Clot, a former adviser for the NSU involved in 2008 Annapolis negotiations confirmed Gershon Baskin’s claim and exposed himself as one of the sources of the leaks.
A set of parameters which are perceived as more balanced by Washington will have a greater chance of being accepted by a large part of Israeli society, even if the current government does not accept it. Those parameters would provide the basis for creating a Palestinian state that Israel could live with.
Gershon Baskin shares his insights regarding the prospects and obstacles of a NATO or UN peacekeeping mission in the Palestinian territories and to discuss possible solutions.
