Rescue teams in Gaza City say up to 100 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school building in Gaza City where thousands of people had been sheltering. EU leaders called it an “intolerable number” of victims.

There has been a series of strikes on school buildings used as shelters this month. On August 1st, 15 people were killed in Shujeya. Two days later, 17 died in two school buildings in Sheikh Radwan. The following day, 30 more were killed in another two strikes. In Tuffah, 17 people died on August 8. And then today, the worst attack on a school since the war began, according to Save the Children.

Israel said they had targeted Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants who were using the building to plan attacks.
