China Global Television Network (CGTN) reporter Zhou Jiaxin in Jerusalem spoke with a former hostage negotiator Gershon Baskin, who once negotiated a prisoner swap with Hamas in 2011 to secure the release of an Israeli soldier. In the first week of this conflict, Baskin found himself in talks with them to negotiate a “small prisoner deal.” It failed. The intensified Israeli attacks have also complicated negotiations for a ceasefire. Baskin described Hamas’ October 7th attack as far beyond his expectations.
