Gershon Baskin, one of the loudest voices on the Israeli left, is a hugely influential and celebrated actor in Israeli-Palestinian politics, famously engaging with his contacts in Hamas in order to facilitate the release of Gilad Schalit, alongside negotiating ceasefires.
He has served in several Israeli governments, including those of Menachim Begin and Yitzack Rabin. He has since founded the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (now called Israel-Palestine: Creative Regional Initiatives) a think-tank dedicated to engaging policymakers and the wider public in ending the occupation and promoting a just and sustainable end to the conflict.
Alongside this side of his political activism, he also works with with Palestinians in the West Bank to develop renewable energy solutions.
